Review of Travelers: Seasons One through Three

Far in the future, with humanity on the brink of extinction, specially trained teams journey to the early twenty-first century to reshape the flow of history so that the cataclysms that led to such a wretched future never come to pass. These Travelers have their consciousnesses implanted into individuals moments before they were historically recorded as dying and receive orders from the future to carry out large and small tasks that are designed to help humanity’s development. But history is not necessarily easy to change. Will the Travelers succeed at forging a new path for humankind? In The Fare (2019) a cab driver on a desolate desert road picks up a lone woman. After a few minutes of conversation, she inexplicably vanishes. Then time seemingly resets and the cab driver repeats the same sequence of events, with no memory of what has previously occurred. Eventually the cabbie, Harris, begins to remember earlier versions of the time loop. As he works with his passenger, Penny, on finding a way out of the loop, they begin to form a close bond. But all is not as it seems. Penny has a secret that lies at the root of Harris’ predicament.

The follow-on takes place nearly 30 after the world was destroyed in a war against Moon Nazis in 2018 (yes, the premise of these movies is pretty insane). The remnants of humanity have occupied the Nazi moon base and are struggling for survival. When a ship filled with refugees makes it aboard the base, a surprise passenger offers the survivors an unexpected opportunity to change their grim fate.

For those familiar with the series, Resleeved takes place shortly after the betrayal and destruction of the Envoys, a significant amount of time before the events in Season One and Two. Takeshi Kovacs is hired to find the killer of a Yakuza boss’ brother and is tasked with protecting a young girl (the Yakuza clan’s tattoo artist who is being hunted my mysterious assassins) to gain entry into the organization.
