"Premieres" will feature official trailers and synopses from what I feel looks like the most interesting (or the only, in some cases) original programming coming out in the subsequent week on Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and elsewhere. In no way to these previews represent recommendations or reviews. My intent is to post this segment each Thursday or Friday, but we'll see. Enjoy!
3Below: Tales of Arcadia- Netflix, December 21
Following Trollhunters, DreamWorks 3 Below will focus on two royal teenage aliens and their bodyguard who flee a surprise takeover of their home planet by an evil dictator and crash land in Arcadia. Now on the run from intergalactic bounty hunters, they struggle to blend in and adapt to the bizarre world of high school all the while attempting to repair their ship so they can return and defend their home planet.
Marvel's Runaways: Season 2- Hulu, December 21
The Runaways have left their homes (and evil parents) behind and now have to learn to live on their own. As they scavenge for food, search for shelter, and take care of one another, our kids begin to realize that, for better or worse, they’re stuck with each other. And it’s up to them to take down PRIDE once and for all. But someone sent a mysterious message to Jonah… Is there a mole in the Runaways? Meanwhile PRIDE is focused on finding their children, and Jonah has his own dangerous plan in mind.
Vanity Fair: Season 1- Amazon Prime, December 21
Thackeray's classic novel returns to the screen more vibrant, venal and viciously funny than ever before. In an England on the brink of bankruptcy and war, only the wily may prosper. Becky Sharp is a governess, temptress and social climber supreme, a woman who more than compenstes in brains and beauty for what she conspicuously lacks in breeding. To what lengths will she go in order to secure herself and rich and high-born husband? And how many male hearts will be left broken along the way? We follow Becky's journey from the elegant salons of Georgian London to the battlefields of Waterloo, from her ill-fated attempts to woo the buffonish Joe Sedley, to her equally doomed marriage to the aristocratic cad Rawdon Crawley. The unsinkable Becky's progress is mirrored by that of her best friend Amelia, who is besotted with the raffish George Osborne, but secretly admired by Osborne's staunch ally William Dobbin. Can both women survive the foibles of love and the catastrophic events unfolding in England and abroad?
Destroyer- In Theaters, December 25
‘Destroyer’ follows the moral and existential odyssey of LAPD detective Erin Bell who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.
I have no clue what I'm doing, but I'll keep doing whatever it is to the best of my ability.
