In Amazon Prime’s Hunters, when his grandmother is murdered in 1970s New York, Jonah (Logan Lerman) discovers a vast conspiracy: there are Nazis living in the United States. Confronted with this reality, he’s recruited by Meyer Offerman (Al Pacino) an old family friend, to join a group dedicated to hunting and killing these monsters. But the Nazis have their own ideas: they  haven’t given up their plans for world domination, and through their influence in the halls of American corporate and political power, they are determined to bring about a Fourth Reich.

"Premieres" will feature official trailers and synopses from what I feel looks like the most interesting (or the only, in some cases) original programming coming out in the subsequent week on Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and elsewhere. In no way to these previews represent recommendations or reviews. My intent is to post this segment each Thursday or Friday, but we'll see. Enjoy!

Netflix’s Locke & Key follows the Locke children after they, and their mother, move into the childhood home of their father who, months earlier, was brutally and seemingly senselessly murdered in front of them. After moving into Keyhouse (yes, that’s what it’s actually called), the children begin finding keys that grant them access to incredibly powerful, incredibly dangerous abilities. Unbeknownst to the Locke kids, one of their father’s old enemies has resurfaced and will stop at nothing to gain control of the keys.

In Men In Black: International (2019, currently on Starz), the venerable franchise introduces us to some new characters. Molly (Tessa Thompson) has been searching for the MIB her entire life after a childhood encounter with them and an extraterrestrial. Agent H (Chris Hemsworth) was once one of the best agents in MIB, but has since lost his way. Together, they must prevent an invasion by an enemy that doesn’t just conquer planets, but also infiltrates the bodies of those planet’s inhabitants.

Picture
Brightburn (2019, currently on Starz) asks the question: what if Superman were a psychopath instead of a savior? Brightburn shows this through the story of 12-year old Brandon Breyer. Brandon was discovered by a loving family, just like Clark Kent was. But Brandon is no Clark. He has all of Superman’s powers, but none of his empathy or self-control.

Picture
Rise of Empires: Ottoman (Netflix) is a historical docudrama that covers one of the most important (but least well-known, at least in the United States) events in the history of both the European and Islamic worlds: the fall of Constantinople and the supplanting of the failing Byzantine Empire with the rising Ottoman Empire, led by the dynamic young leader, Mehmed II.
