Jessi Klein is a stand-up comic and a comedy writer. Part memoir, part musings on life, with the feel of a set of essays, Klein is (unsurprisingly) quite funny. She has the good comedienne's knack for finding the raw spot of vulnerability, ridiculousness, insecurity, or pain and making it humorous and, occasionally, uncomfortable.
From awkward and embarrassing admissions to the trials and tribulations of dating and body image, career moves and motherhood, Klein hits many of the topics that professional women of a certain age have tackled, doing so with wonderful balance of wit and self-deprecation.
Deep enough to offer some intellectual substance, but never taking itself too seriously, a good summer read for someone who wants to be amused, invited to some self-examination, but not to lose sleep in self-doubt or any IQ points in the reading.
