Author: Ezekiel Boone Rating: 3.5 Stars Review By Shana Highly entertaining book -- think written version of creature-feature, B-movie in all the best ways. The scene: something like present day earth (maybe a few years in the future), an ancient menace appears to reawaken. China nukes itself, a millionaire gets a nasty stomach bug as he visits Peru, Indian seismologists sense a disturbance that is growing, Marines get ready for deployment, and an arachnologist finds her work of sudden and growing importance to the White House. The author clearly takes pleasure in trying to creep you out and introduces (and in many cases, grossly dispatches) a wide cast of characters -- some merely are cogs in the horror/SF machinery, others seem to be lynchpins in this projected trilogy. The characters are a bit one-dimensional and many are ridiculously good-looking, but this is less character study than disaster book and it all works. The book is fast-paced and clearly the first act, ending in a cliff-hanger. Now I just have to wait until the next books and try not to feel like I’m covered in creepy crawlies in the meantime.
